Biofinity Multifocal Contact Lenses
Biofinity Multifocal contact lenses are monthly replacement contact lenses that allow for near and distance vision without the use of reading glasses. These are bifocal contacts in the sense that they have zones of near and distance power in the lens, however they also provide some intermediate range vision so they may also be referred to as multifocal contacts. The Biofinity Multifocal contact lenses are interesting in that they allow the eye care provider to tailor the near and distance power areas of each eye separately to optimize near and distance vision for the wearer.
The Biofinity Multifocal contact lenses make use of Aquaform Technology. This is a combination of technologies that are designed to create a healthy and comfortable lens wearing experience. One aspect of this technology affects the modulus of the lens. The modulus of a contact lens refers to the “stiffness” of a lens. As the modulus of a lens increases, the lens becomes less flexible or “stiffer.” This contact is a relatively low modulus lens and therefore is more soft and flexible than a lens with a higher modulus would be.
This technology also creates a lens with a relatively high oxygen permeability. This is important because the cornea receives oxygen from the air and if a contact lens with low oxygen permeability is placed on the eye, less oxygen will reach the cornea and the eye will start showing signs of stress due to this lack of oxygen such as new blood vessel growth, changes to the cornea on a cellular level, etc.
Contact lens prescriptions are valid for one year. If you have a valid prescription from our office in the last year, but need to order more contacts, just give us a call and we’ll be able to get your new contacts ready for you to pick up at our office or we can mail them to you. If you need a new prescription for contacts, you can schedule your eye exam and contact lens evaluation online.
