OGI Eyewear makes great use of color and acetate materials in their frames. Most of there frames are the type that will get noticed and stand out. If that’s what you’re looking for, this can be a great choice. They have their original OGI Eyewear line of frames and also a line called Seraphin which is similar, but a little bit higher quality and price point. According to their founder and designer, Seraphin is known as “the romantic hero of neoclassic luxury.” That’s pouring it on a little thick for our taste. But, we can’t argue with them, that the Seraphin line does have a lot of really terrific eyeglasses frames in it.
OGI Eyewear is a relatively new company (especially compared to some of our Japanese brands that have been around since the 1920’s). OGI Eyewear was founded in 1997 with just a few styles and colors, but has evolved rapidly since then, growing on the strength of their frame designs. There founder likes to relate a story where he started designing frames with just a paper and pencil. Then, he worked his way up to a little booth in the very corner of a cavernous vision expo hall (this is the big trade show where eyeglass frame buyers come from all over the world to check out the new designs). Even though the booth was in the worst possible location, the frames were still a hit because the product was so good it didn’t need a fancy booth to show it off.
Their frames are aimed at that “affordable luxury” spot, which is a good fit for Portland Eye Care because what we aim to create is a space where folks can get really great products and services, that rival products and services that you’d get from the most expensive brand name retailers, or most exclusive concierge medical practices, and make them available right here on SE Division Street.
