Portland Sunglasses is our house label line of sunglasses. The Portland Sunglasses line is made from some of the best eyeglass materials available: mineral glass lenses, polarized optics, German hinges, Japanese production techniques, and European design. However, because this is our “in-house” brand, these sunglasses are available at much more reasonable price than you’d generally expect for sunglasses of this quality. The designs are based on classic shapes with modern flair and styling to take advantage of the quality of the materials used.
Portland Sunglasses are great for contact lens wearers who need a pair of nonprescription sunglasses to wear with contacts. We have polarized lenses as well as non-polarized options available, both with full ultraviolet blocking lenses. If you’re not a contact lens wearer, your prescription can be inserted into any of the Portland Sunglasses as well as any of our other frames.
We have a wide range of lens tints available for all the Portland Sunglasses. These include solid tints, gradient tints, and photochromics. Generally, a brown tint will enhance contrast while a grey tint will preserve color integrity. A photochromic lens is one that darkens when exposed to light. These lenses are often know as Transitions as that is one of the leading brands of photochromic lenses. However, you may want to get a solid tinted lens rather than a photochromic lens if your main use of the sunglasses will be for driving. This is because photochromic lenses are activated by ultraviolet light, which is filtered out by your car windshield. Consequently, photochromic lenses, although they have made great strides in this respect in recent years, do not generally work as well for a driving lens as a solid tint will.
